Anne Z. Murphy, Ph.D.

Dr. Anne Z. Murphy joined the faculty of Georgia State University in 2003, and is currently a Professor in the Neuroscience Institute. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati in 1992 under the guidance of Dr. Michael Behbehani (Dept. Physiology). She then completed postdoctoral fellowships in Behavioral Neuroanatomy with Dr. Michael Shipley at the Univ. Maryland, Baltimore and in Behavioral Neuroendocrinology with Dr. Gert Holstege at the Rijksuniversitiet in the Netherlands. Before joining the faculty at Georgia State University, Dr. Murphy was a Research Associate Professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Murphy has received numerous research grants from the National Institutes of Health to support her work. Dr. Murphy is also on the editorial board of several journals and reviews grants regularly for NIH and NSF. When not doing science, Dr. Murphy loves to hang out on the beach with her husband, Dr. Larry Young (Emory) and her two boys, Jack & Sam. She also likes to think of herself as an amateur gourmet chef, but we all know it's just an excuse to open a bottle of wine!
